Return-To-Sport Testing at MoveFree Physio

Optimizing Movement

What is ‘Return-To-Sport Testing?

Return-to-Sport Testing is the process of helping athletes and active individuals safely transition back to their sport following an injury, surgery or period of rehabilitation. It involves objectively assessing whether they have regained the strength, power, control and physical capacity required to meet the demands of their sport, rather than relying on pain reduction alone. This is particularly important for individuals recovering from injuries or surgical procedures such as Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) reconstruction, meniscus repair and shoulder dislocation, where assessing physical readiness is essential for a safe return to sporting activities.

Return to Sport with Confidence

Returning to sport after an injury requires more than just feeling better. At MoveFree Physiotherapy, our Return-to-Sport Testing uses VALD ForceDecks and ForceFrame technology to objectively assess strength, power, force production and limb symmetry, helping determine whether you are physically ready to return to training and sport.

For athletes returning to running-based activities, our Running Analysis service uses a force plate-embedded clinical treadmill to assess running biomechanics, loading patterns and movement efficiency. This provides additional insights into running mechanics and potential areas for improvement, complementing our Return-to-Sport Testing assessments.

Who Is It For?

Return-to-Sport Testing is suitable for athletes and active individuals recovering from injuries,
particularly those returning to sport following a period of rehabilitation. It can be especially
beneficial for individuals recovering from ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair, ligament
injuries, shoulder dislocations and other sports-related injuries, as well as those looking to
assess their physical performance before returning to high-demand sporting activities.

What Does the Testing Do?

Using VALD ForceDecks and ForceFrame technology, we measure key aspects of physical performance, including muscle strength, power, force production and discrepancies between the left and right sides of the body. These objective measurements help identify any remaining weaknesses, muscular imbalances or strength deficits that may not be obvious through symptoms alone. For individuals returning to running-intensive sports, additional assessments such as Running Analysis may be recommended to evaluate running biomechanics and movement patterns, providing a more comprehensive understanding of their physical readiness.

How Can It Help?

Our Return-to-Sport Testing helps track your recovery progress, identify areas that may require further strengthening and assess whether you have achieved key physical benchmarks for returning to sport.

Whether you are recovering from ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair, shoulder dislocation or other sports-related injuries, these assessments provide valuable insights into your physical capabilities and rehabilitation progress. The results are interpreted alongside your physiotherapist’s clinical assessment, functional performance and the specific demands of your sport to support informed decisions about returning to training and competition.

At MoveFree Physiotherapy, our goal is to help you return to sport safely, confidently and with a clearer understanding of your physical readiness.
